Many people love to travel, of course, the coronavirus has had its impact, but the reopening of borders for many countries is expected soon, and tourists will once again fill the streets and squares of cities.
A separate trend in tourism has become independent bike, motorcycle, and car trips. Unlike urban tourism, with its landmarks, nature and landscapes around have come to the forefront of such trips.
It can be dull to drive through a plain with endlessly identical landscapes, but there are other roads that will leave no one indifferent. The American channel National Geographic has compiled a list of such – the top 10 Most Beautiful Roads in the World.
1 Verdon Gorge Road (France)
The Verdon Gorge is a natural attraction in France. It is located in Upper Provence, between the villages of Castellane and Moustier-Sainte-Marie. This unique place offers picturesque nature, places for active recreation, and beaches.
2 Pamir Highway (Tajikistan)
An automobile road passing through Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, connecting the cities of Osh, Khorog, and Dushanbe.
3 Dalton Highway (USA)
A highway in Alaska, USA, with a total length of 414 miles. Built for transporting construction materials to an oil pipeline in 1974. It starts from the Elliot Highway and ends in Deadhorse, near the coast of the Arctic Ocean.
4 Transfăgărășan Highway (Romania)
An automobile highway in the Romanian Carpathians, connecting Wallachia and Transylvania through the Făgăraș Mountains. Construction began due to the Romanian government’s concerns after the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia. It was built by the Romanian army.
5 Chuysky Tract (Russia)
Federal Highway M52 crosses the territories of the Novosibirsk Region, Altai Territory, and the Altai Republic, and then passes through Mongolia.
6 Atlantic Road (Norway)
A 36-kilometer section of the Bud-Korvog highway in Norway. Located between the towns of Molde and Kristiansund, it connects the small islands of Averøy and Frey through the Atlantic Ocean.
7 Tianmen Mountain Road (China)
An automotive road of incredible steepness leads to the top of Tianmen Mountain in the Hunan Province of China, called Heaven-Linking Avenue. It rises to a height of 1300 meters above sea level, has 99 turns, and leads to the Heaven’s Gate cave.
8 Route 40 (Argentina)
The longest highway in the world, 5000 km long. It passes through the western part of Argentina, from Punta Loyola in the south to La Quiaca in the north, along the Andean mountain ranges.
9 Grand Circle (USA)
It’s more of a ring from Denver through Aspen to the Colorado Plateau. The road passes through Hoover Dam, the Monument Valley of the Navajo Indians.
10 Great Ocean Road (Australia)
Officially known as B100, a 243-kilometer highway along the coast of Victoria, Australia. It starts in Torquay and ends in Allansford.
