1 ETF Mining Equipment Dump Truck – 760 tons
The world’s largest dump truck doesn’t even have its own name yet. It was produced in Slovenia by ETF Mining Equipment in 2018 and currently exists as a single unit. Moreover, it surpasses its closest competitor in load capacity by 69%!
2 Belaz 75710 – 450 tons
Standing at 8 meters tall (which, by the way, is taller than an average two-story house!), the Belaz 75710 carries 450 tons and held the world’s top position until May 2018. Losing the first place after holding it for five years is quite a blow!
3 Komatsu 980E-4 – 369 tons
The silver medalist of our top largest dump trucks is only slightly smaller than the BelAZ in size. But as a Japanese machine, it has three times less power than the Belaz 75710, slightly less length, and greater width. However, less power means lower operating costs, which is definitely an advantage.
4 Caterpillar 797 – 363 tons
Another truck that requires climbing a two-story ladder to get into. But once inside, the Caterpillar can give you quite a ride. In fact, in terms of maximum speed, it can compete with the top-ranked trucks in our list – 67.5 km/h!
5 Liebherr T284 – 363 tons
Liebherr T284 is one of the “lightest” heavy dump trucks, yet its load capacity is almost on par with the top-ranked trucks. Its own weight is 237 tons (which is 30 times the weight of an adult African elephant, but the No.4 on our list weighs four elephants more!).
6 Belaz 75600 – 360 tons
Back to another BelAZ. This monster is also equipped with the latest mechanics, including warnings for high-voltage power lines, a remote fire suppression system, tire pressure control, and much more…
7 Komatsu 960E-2 – 327 tons
The Komatsu 960E-2 shows a significant reduction in load capacity, but it is still a massive dump truck. It wouldn’t be able to drive on most roads in the world because it would need three full lanes just for itself—its width of 9.6 meters leaves no space for other vehicles.
8 Caterpillar 795F AC – 313 tons
If there’s a perfectly designed mining dump truck, this is it. Without a doubt, all mining dump trucks serve the same purpose, but the Caterpillar 795F AC is perhaps the best prepared for the job. Its body comes in two modifications for heavier and lighter materials, and its use of AC electric motors was quite an innovation at the time.
9 Hitachi EH5000AC-3 – 296 tons
One of the most “advanced” models of 2012, it is packed with electronics. AC electric motors, electric brakes (because stopping such a machine isn’t easy!)—everything is designed to improve drivability, making this one of the most maneuverable trucks in its class.
10 Komatsu 930E-4 – 292 tons
The Komatsu 930E-4 is a bestseller among heavy dump trucks. More than 1,900 units of this “American” have been produced, despite the fact that the 930E-4 is not the heaviest machine in its series (but, apparently, the most successful!).
